Latest News Creative mural by our young people Part of the continuing improvements to the centre includes a make over for the reception area. It was decided to ask students from Warblington School to design a mural that represents the Emsworth community, past and present. The students all from Emsworth took a number of photographs and visited the Museum before starting on this exciting project. The work has taken almost 12 months for them to complete and they have been assisted and supervised by Miss Vanessa Meyer a teacher at the school. I think you will agree it will have a stunning visual impact as you enter the centre. We also hope it will be a tangible sign of the ECA's growing links with schools and young people in our special community
Emsworth’s Got Talent 2012 It is with regret that we have to announce that we are not able to put on Emsworth’s Got Talent this year. Due to staff cuts, the people who ran it so successfully last year are no longer able to help us. However, a limited version, ‘BUZ’s Got Talent’, will be put on during the autumn by the new Youth Club (see article above). If you’re in school years 9,10 or 11 and would like to take part, please get in touch with the BUZ team. If anyone is willing and able to help us run Emsworth’s Got Talent once again in 2013, please contact Jean Tier on 01243 378470.
Take time to
help patients in need
23 September and 2 December. The NHS will once again be asking for blood again using half the car park. We know it makes it difficult parking for other hall users, but it is important that they can come in and set up straight away so they can start on time. With the summer holidays at an end the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is reminding us, the Importance of taking the time to donate blood. Currently 7,000 units of blood are needed every day to help save the lives of sick and injured patients across England and North Wales. For some patients who have severe blood loss, such as those who have complications in childbirth or a traffic accident, a blood transfusion can make the difference between life and death. Some blood group stocks often dip in the summer when people are on holiday. Blood has a very limited shelf life so cannot be stock piled It can be easy to forget the blood donor appointment in the diary. We ask you to attend if at all possible but if you can’t attend your appointment please let us know by calling 0300 123 23 23 so that your appointment can be offered to someone else. It is also worth remembering that if you are going away in England or North Wales that you could make your donation at your holiday destination.
Anyone aged between 17 - 65, weighing more than 50 kg (7 stone 12lbs) and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor. There is no upper age limit for donors who have donated in the last two years. To book an appointment call the Donor Line on 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk There are four main blood groups – O, A, B and AB. Group O is the most common and therefore the most in demand. Over 95% of the blood collected is processed into its main components – red cells, platelets and plasma. A regular supply of blood is vital – red cells last only 35 days and platelets only five days.
The Good people of Emsworth typically donate 125 units during a session at the Community Centre. Please remember it is advisable to make an appointment to give blood.
